Bring this yummy Basil Lime Fruit Salad to any occasion and I guarantee it will be a huge hit! It’s full of juicy fruits including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, and it even has basil for a burst of flavor in every bite.
As much as I love regular chopped salads, there’s something about a sweet and refreshing fruit salad that I cannot get enough of!
This Basil LimeFruit Salad is the perfect appetizer, snack, or dessert, and my personal favorite way to incorporate a variety of different fruits into the day! It’s much easier to hit my three servings of fruit per day when everything is ready to go, which is why fruit salads are so convenient (not just for cookouts and parties). Not to mention, it takes no time to prepare so you can quickly add it into your meal prep day.
This recipe is a great way to take advantage of the fresh, summer fruits that taste incredible when they’re in season… so let’s get into what you’ll need to make it!
Shopping seasonally not only ensures quality produce, but it’s also so economical! I am a big fan of shopping seasonally because it helps add variety into my diet and encourages me to create new recipes with the freshest ingredients. Here is what I picked up at the store to make this recipe…
Berries – A classic summer fruit! I used strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, but you can omit any berry you’d like or add blackberries, if desired.
Peaches – If you’re looking for a bit of crunch in this fruit salad, I like using a slightly underripe peach to add a bit of texture, but you can use a ripe peach for extra juicy flavor. You can also use a nectarine instead!
Basil – Fresh basil truly takes this recipe to another level and I’m obsessed with how well it pairs with berries! If you’re not a fan of basil or want to switch things up, another great herb to try out in this recipe is mint!
Fresh lime juice – A little extra citrus to add brightness and tanginess. This recipe is all about quality ingredients, so I highly recommend using fresh limes!
Honey – To balance out the tart lime juice, I use just a tablespoon or two of honey. You can always use agave instead for a fully vegan recipe.
Dash of salt – This is seriously the secret ingredient to bringing out all the natural sweetness of the fruits, I swear!
There are endless ways to make a fruit salad and at the end of the day, it’s all up to your taste and preference! Below are some alternative ingredients that I’ve used in the past and really enjoyed too.
To make this recipe, first thoroughly wash all your produce. I like soaking the berries and basil in water with a little bit of vinegar first to really make it extra clean!
Next, dry off the fruit with paper towels and thinly slice the strawberries, peach, and basil. Add the sliced fruit and basil to a bowl and combine with the raspberries and blueberries.
Add the juice of two limes, honey, and salt with all the fruit and mix well.
Set in the fridge for a couple hours to let all the flavors marinate, then serve and enjoy!
Pro tip: If you have any leftover fruit salad, transfer it to a ziplock bag and store it in the freezer to use for delicious “fruit salad” smoothies!
